Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women

The number of girls killed merely because of their sex over the past 50 years is equivalent to the number of soldiers killed during all the wars of the 20th century. These shocking figures foreshadow the injustice many women suffer in their lives. However, it is hope-inspiring that women's lives can change dramatically for the better if they are given help in initiating those changes.
Unicef and Like have translated Half the Sky, a book written by the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. Besides gender-based violence, the book focuses on human trafficking, forced prostitution, and child mortality mainly in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
