SAT 29.5.2010 15:00-15:30, Mekong Stage, Railway Square

In recent years, active debate has arisen in Cuban society concerning prejudice towards gender and sexual minorities. Women's role in the macho culture has been a hot topic for even longer. Mekong Stage's Cuban guests, Mariela Castro, known as the defender of Cuba's LGBT community; and Carolina Amador, who represents the country's women's movement, will shed light on the issue.

Mariela Castro is in charge of the Cenesex Centre, which works actively for education and legislative change. She is the daughter of President Raúl Castro and Cuba's most notorious gender equality spokesperson, Vilma Espín. Carolina Amador works in the international department of the Federation of Cuban Women.
