ChocQuibTown's international success is on the rise, and they are already tremendously popular in their home country. This Afro-Colombian band is one of the festival's most interesting groups. Three hiphop MCs from Quibdo, the capital city of Colombia's Chocó province, joined forces in 2000. The band's name and their music pay homage to their home region. Rooted in African rhythms, the band combines hiphop, funk and dancehall, adding in electro and Carribbean influences. A Pacific musical tradition takes on a modern form with the trio's phenomenal expression, also revealing the rich cultural traditions of South America's and Africa's rhythm music in brand new ways.
