Kepa Talks: The struggling civil society of Nicaragua and the world (FIN/NCA/TAN)

  • Sun 28.5.2017 16.10–16.50 Mekong Stage

Since 2007 Daniel Ortega’s regime has systematically limited Nicaraguan civil society's possibilities to act. Its options to debate and influence public policies have significantly decreased. However, some successes have been experienced, even in relation to the economically important mining sector. Javier Mejía from the environmental organization Centro Humboldt will discuss with Siemenpuu Foundation’s activist, researcher Mira Käkönen, Auli Starck from Kepa and Tumainiel Ibrahim Mangi from Tanzania about the global trend of shrinking civil society space and civil society’s possibilities to influence the use of natural resources. The discussion is held in English.
