Interview with Phyllis Omido: Shedding light on environmental activism – a Kenyan view (FIN/KEN)

  • Sat 27.5.2017 18.20–18.50 Taiga Stage

“Our Constitution guarantees us the right to a clean and healthy environment and the right to the freedom of expression.” Phyllis Omido founded the Center for Justice Governance & Environmental Action (CJGEA) in order to campaign for the rights of the local community and for a healthy environment on the coast of Kenya. Now, environmental activists face increasing risks, and members of CJGEA have been threatened. Despite these challenges, they continue to fight for a clean environment and for the rights of the people. CJGEA works to strengthen the environmental rights movement in Kenya. The discussion is held in English.
