Kuvassa Darude

Darude supporting young activists who demand for action at the festival

World Village festival gathers young environmental activists from Finland and abroad to Helsinki, Kaisaniemi park and Railway square.

Youth perspectives on the climate change discussion will also be presented, for example on Taiga Stage in an interview with environmental activist Nike Mahlhaus of the German Ende Gelände movement.

In a discussion hosted by the Finnish Committee for UNICEF, Sara Nyman of the Agenda 2030 Youth Group, ombudswoman for children Elina Pekkarinen and Finland’s Eurovision representative Ville Virtanen a.k.a. Darude will consider the youth’s role in fighting climate change. Darude is participating in a Finnish Committee for UNICEF campaign related to young people and climate change.

’Young people are afraid for their future because of climate change and I want to help make their voices heard. Us adults must do our part instead of looking away,’ Darude commented.

Other talks will focus on consumers’ responsibility in slowing down the rate of climate change. The Ministry for the Environment will host a discussion on Mekong Stage on how to shrink our carbon footprint, while Sitra will present their tips for a sustainable lifestyle. On Taiga Stage, the Finnish Association for Fair Tourism is set to highlight the climate impact of travelling.

World Village Festival is held on 25–26 May 2019 in Helsinki at Kaisaniemi Park and Railway Square. The festival is hosted by Fingo ry, an umbrella organisation for 300 CSOs and an expert organisation in the field of development.
