Former UN Special Rapporteur Mr. Maina Kiai talks about the future of human rights in a post-pandemic world. Were we too optimistic about the triumph of human rights? What has changed and how can we defend human rights and civic space together?

Maina Kiai’s talks are full of power and inspiration and he has a profound understanding of civil societies globally. He is a long-time human rights activist from Kenya and served as the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association from 2011 to 2017. Kiai is a founding member of Human Rights Watch’s Alliances and Partnerships programme, founder of Kenyan Civil Society Organization InformAction, and a member of Facebook’s Global Oversight Board.
