World Village Festival keeps the name unchanged

Following a strong response from the audience and stakeholders, World Village Festival has decided to keep the name of the festival. The festival organised a contest in April and May to seek ideas for a new name. Over 80 per cent of respondents opposed changing the name.

In the end of April, the festival announced a set of upcoming changes, including the move to a new venue in Suvilahti. The announcement included a survey to gather feedback from the festival audience and stakeholders and launched a competition to come up with a new name for World Village Festival. The main prize of the competition was a Pelago bicycle.

The naming question arouse great passion on social media and hundreds of ideas were submitted. The audience and all other stakeholders, such as exhibitioners and programme producers, gave a clear message that the old name should be kept, says the festival’s Communications and Fundraising Manager Nelli Korpi.

– Even though we gave serious thought to changing the name, we decided to respect the audience’s wish. The message from the festival’s fans and partners was strong. The festival’s name is well-liked, and it really fits exactly the kind of event we organise.

The main prize of the naming competition was a Pelago bicycle, which was raffled among all competition participants as no new name was chosen. In addition, 30 t-shirts designed for the 2020 festival were raffled among respondents of the audience survey. All winners will be contacted personally.

World Village Festival is holding a briefing event on Wednesday 23 September at 4PM for exhibitioners, programme producers and other interested parties. The event will feature more information on the opportunities provided by the new festival venue and festival collaboration as well as networking among festival stakeholders. An invitation with further details will be sent out closer to the event date.

Next year’s World Village Festival will be held in Suvilahti in Helsinki, 29–30 May 2021, with Future as the theme.
